Wed, 27 August 2008 In this podcast I speak a bit about the yearly Minnesota Day held the second sunday in August (this year August 10) at the Swedish Emigrant institute. the Minnesota Day is held as a celebration to swedish imigration to USA especially to Minnesota and also to other parts of the world. It features among other things the giving og the award "Swedish -American of the Year" this year it was Barbro Osher. Before the celebration I managed to make 2 interviews. firstly with Ted Rosvall the chairman of the Swedish Federation of Genealogical societies He speaks about the Federation and its website and their yearly conference "The Genealogy Days"in the city of Malmö. aug 29-31 his travels to USA and its work and also what things he think is important for anyone with swedish ancestors should know. He also mentions the Federations website in english. and the CD-ROM The swedish Death book 1947-2006. the CD-ROM is available in the Federations webshop wich is all in swedish but you can ask questions over mail info@genealogi.se . the other interview is with the noted Swedish_american scholar H Arnold Barton he talks about his own swedish ancestors and about some of the books he has written. We will also hear The "Minnesota Day song" performed by the Växjö Male Choir. Lastly I speak about my new genealogical blog Anna-Karins Genealogical Blog. The blog is losely connected to the podcast and in it I write about swedish genealogy and history and subjects close to that and also a little about my own family research. I had a great time visiting Minnesota, The Southern Californian Genealogical Jamboree in Burbank California and Washington state. In this Podcast Episode I have 2 interwiews. The first is made at the Genealogical Jamboree in Burbank and it is with Genline's american representative Kathy Meade and she tells about Genlines services to American and Canadian customers. The Second Interwiew is with Martin Sandberg and he is telling about Kindo a new London based social networking site for families (and to some extent family researchers) to keep in touch. Sun, 18 May 2008 In this podcast I tell abit about my planned trip to USA this summer. I hope to be present at the Southern California Genealocical Jamboree in Burbank ,California June27-june29th. During the work on this episode i got the news that the Swedish Emigrant Institute here in Växjö is in dagne rof being forced to merge with our local county Museum. "Thou Ancient Thou free" The text was written in 1844 by Richard Dybeck and the melody comes from an old folktune from the province of Västmanland. The city of Halmstad celebrates its 700 years annivesery. Halland is a small province but it had a big immigration to USA in the late 19th century. Shortly some intresting features will be launched on the subject of swedish genealogy Genline (on of the companies that provide swedish churchrecords online) will be launching a new feature called familjeband.se It will be a new service wich will make it possible to upload ones Family Three online a similar service called bygdeband.se for researchers in local history will also be launched . The services will be launced and introducedat the Conference in Halmstad and I will try to attend and se what it is all about. Another company ArkivDigital will launch its own service of swedish churchrecords online called ADOnline I would also like to promote another podcast about genealogy the Genealogemspodcast hosted by Lisa Cooke in California The podcast gives valuable tips about how tog et the most out of your genealogy. Tue, 23 January 2007 My name is Anna-Karin Schander and I live in Växjö in Sweden. I am trying to publish a little podcast in english about mainly swedish-american genealogy. It will contain both information about swedish genealogy and history and records and what happened to the swedes who immigrated mainly to USA(but also to other countries). and what happened to them and what records they left.
